Introduction Southern Analytical Laboratories, Inc. (a Delaware Corporation) located in Oldsmar, Florida, is a certified testing laboratory established in 1985 offering environmental analysis, and sampling. Our firm provides comprehensive, responsive and economical service to clients in government, industry and engineering disciplines. Designed and staffed to effectively carry out the broad scope of analyses normally encountered in environmental applications, SAL offers many years of diverse experience. Analyses are conducted using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment. Routine organic, inorganic and microbiological tests are performed strictly in accordance with such references as Standard Methods, EPA Methods, ASTM Standards or other guidelines dictated by project requisites. Our capability in the area of organics analysis is enhanced by the use of computerized and automated gas chromatography equipment, which can be configured for a variety of applications. Trace metal analyses are expedited using automated ICP and atomic absorption instrumentation. Throughout the laboratory, the use of current microprocessor and computer controlled instrumentation results in economy of analytical time, low incidence of breakdowns, and consequently an attractive price structure for our customers. Naturally, use of state-of-the-art technology also allows the production of higher quality analytical data. Southern Analytical Laboratories, Inc. is experienced in the analysis of potable water, ground waters, surface waters, wastewaters, process waters, reuse waters, estuarine and seawaters, and a variety of related environmental matrices such as sludges or sediments. In addition to this, the laboratory is frequently called upon to test soils, hazardous wastes, or other materials. The laboratory is situated, geographically, between Tampa and Clearwater, permitting easy access to both areas for the benefit of local clients. Furthermore, proximity to major roadways and Tampa Airport facilities enables us to easily reach more distant customers. Alternative shipping methods are available to satisfy both economic and time requirements. In recognition of its responsibility to furnish reliable laboratory data, SAL has designed and maintains a stringent quality assurance program. It encompasses every facet of laboratory operation, including sample processing, record keeping/reporting, equipment calibration/maintenance, analytical methodologies, statistical evaluation of analytical results, inventory, qualification of personnel and laboratory safety. The program conforms to guidelines established by the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and, in many ways, outreaches these requirements. Southern Analytical Laboratories, Inc. is nationally accredited under the NELAC program for both drinking water and environmental analyses. A Quality Assurance Plan, maintained on site, conforms to the requirements of chapter 5 of the NELAC standards. This plan is a comprehensive description of SAL’s operational and quality assurance practices and is continually revised to make current information available to clients and agencies.
